Shannon received a masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2003.  She is certified in adult cardiac life support and is a member of the Academy of Physician Assistants.

Shannon attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate studies, and received a bachelors degree in the science of foods, nutrition and exercise in 2000.
