Diagnostic Imaging

The Nebraska Spine Center has two digital SwissRay x-ray machines. The x-rays aid the physician in proper diagnosis of spinal deformities, degeneration, fractures, injuries and back pain. After the digital images are taken they can be accessed by our physicians/PA’s in any of our 36 patient rooms. Our Radiologic Technologists usually take the images while the patient is standing to obtain a functional image for our physicians to use as a diagnostic tool.

MRI and CT scan services are also offered on site for faster diagnosis. Your doctor will decide which type of scan is most appropriate for you.  In addition, fluoroscopy can also be used to best determine the treament plan for your back pain.

What are MRI and CT scans?
CT scans (Computed Axial Tomography) are special x-ray tests that produce cross-sectional images of the body using x-rays and a computer. It allows physicians to examine the inside of the body in "slices".

Spine CT scans are another way to provide images used in diagnosing back pain.

MRI scan (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is the type of scan that uses magnetism (instead of x-rays) to build up a picture of the inside of the body. This is an example of an MRI scan.

MRI is painless, but noisy! The main advantage of MRI scans are that they use no x-ray radiation. The soft tissues of the body show up clearly and a single scan can produce pictures from multiple angles.

Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy (x-ray imaging) may be used to help your doctor determine the best placement of an epidural steroid injection.  A contrast dye may be injected into the region to help obtain a better image.

Dr. Alicia Feldman is certified to perform these on site to evaluate your back pain and determine the best treatment modality available.
